This characterful late Victorian London terraced townhouse, set in the heart of the fashionable Abbeville Village in South London, was extensively altered and in part reconstructed. Much of the house was renovated and opened up to create much larger rooms and spaces suitable for modern day family life. The proposals included full re-servicing of the property, significant layout alterations, a part-Basement refurbishment and a new-build large rear glazed Extension.
Care was taken to reinstate many original architectural features and, while the building was not listed, several repairs and enhancements have benefitted the overall result and character of the house.
Arranged on four levels, the key goal of the design Team was to create a home for the family with generous spaces, suitable for the longer term. The existing staircase was retained and reworked, where it needed to gain access to the loft space, which in turn was fully refurbished and converted into additional bedrooms.
The Garden at the rear was designed in conjunction with a noted Landscape Architect and was carefully re-modelled, so as to compliment the rear extension of the house, with easy access from the Ground Floor Family Sitting Room and Kitchen.
The Client had also requested the installation of a bespoke wine cellar, involving specifically designed joinery and state-of-the-art cooling.
